about
Rama Lama Records proudly present Alpha Pet as our latest signing. The Stockholm quartet features members from Cat Princess, Delsbo Beach Club and more are set to release a string of singles during 2024 with "Numbers Wrong" being the first.
Rocky about the new single: "Numbers wrong is an attempt to write a rock song as straight forward as possible and find the magic in simplicity. Lyrically it's also straight forward. It's about this person playing "normal" or broke even though money shouldn't be a problem. Now their either too dumb or fucked up to call their family and solve the problem they've gotten into."
When the Swedish new wave indie band Cat Princess disbanded in 2020, founder, songwriter and guitarist Rocky Åberg became a free agent on the Stockholm music market. To stay in shape during the transfer window, he started playing with friends Joakim Almén, Patrik Eklund and Markus Ljungholm, who in 2019 played IDLES and Broncho covers for fun.
With the arrival of Rocky, the focus on covers soon shifted to their favorite band, The Clash. Though, as satisfying as it is to unleash your inner Joe Strummer – it's always more fun to create your own songs, and when Alpha Pet's first song Concept of Power wrote itself during one rehearsal, the cover songs were quickly tossed aside for the bands new sound. A sound that initially sounded like the post-punk of Manchester circa 1977.
Just in time for the first studio recordings in late 2021, Patrik Eklund had replaced Markus Ljungholm behind the drum kit and Tom Cehlin Magnusson joined as rhythm guitarist. The result was the singles Concept of Power, Too Fast and TV Personality - three dystopian "come to Brazil!"-inducing songs that touched on everything from deserters to the emperor's new clothes.
Since then, the band, whose sound has been compared to everything from Sweden’s most famous television criminologist heavy grunts to Talking Head and The Fall, has played extensively live and has been unanimously praised for their ephedrine-energized and unpredictable live performances.
With the 2023 recruitment of indierock veteran Erik Björklund on guitar and three upcoming singles that move in the landscape between post-punk and rock, Alpha Pet is ready to venture forward into every rock lover's ears in 2024.
Alpha Pet are Rocky Åberg (vocals, guitar), Erik Björklund (guitar, backing vocals), Joakim Almén (bass, backing vocals) and Patrik Eklund (drums, backing vocals). Numbers Wrong is out now on all platforms via Rama Lama Records.
